Late thoughts on Knicks-Sixers 11/11

I know we already had another game between now and then but I still have some thoughts on this game:

  • I think my two favorite things in basketball are small guys scoring inside, and big men passing. Naturally, my two favorite guys to watch are Brunson and Jokic. There was a sequence where Brunson scored between like 3 defenders, and a minute later KAT had a sweet behind the head pass. Had me standing up from my desk flexing at like 9:30 pm on a Tuesday.
  • OG is huge. I knew he was big but at one point he was standing next to PG — not a small dude — and absolutely towered over him. Speaking of which, PG hit some shots but for the most part OG had him in hell. There are times where he looks like the best player on the team and that’s no knock to Brunson/KAT. He’ll force a dude to dribble the air of the ball for 18 seconds then air ball it, then he’ll run down the court, catch it in stride and dunk on someone. No one else on the team can do that. Also I think he’s the only one who can dunk on the team.
  • Will the Sixers regret the Embiid contract? I know there’s no way they were going to offer a max to the reigning MVP, but jfc he looks like Suns Shaq out there. If this is what he looks like now, I can’t imagine what he’ll look like in 3 years. He might be out the league.
  • This team seems to be coming together a bit. We’re approaching the quarter-mark of the season and you can see what they can be for stretches. OG and Mikal hounding everyone on defense while OG knocks down threes and Mikal is finally that third creator we needed. Brunson being Brunson. Hart getting every loose ball and rebound. And KAT being a top 5 center. Need to clean some stuff up still (if I see Hart turn the ball over on another fast break I’m going to flip), but we’re in the right direction.
