Well it wasn’t the absolute worst it could have gone, but it was pretty damn close. Thought it would be the weekend, but the baseball series kept going plus the two football teams needed a few games to really reveal their true intentions. Let’s review:
Yankees: Makes me want to throw up just thinking about the 5th inning. I think it was probably the worst inning/quarter/period I’ve ever seen given the stakes and what happened. If that happens in game 63 people would still remember it. And here it happened in a close out game in the World Series between two marquee franchises. People have asked what the worst mistake was, and it has to be Cole/Rizzo. The Judge error and the Volpe/Jazz exchange were both inexcusable at that time, but at the end of the day, I’ll always be more forgiving to someone screwing up while making trying to make a play as opposed to Rizzo and Cole both just not trying. There’s something about both of them standing there watching Teoscar (I think it was him and don’t want to look it up) take first that makes me so much more upset than those other guys. At least Judge, Volpe, and Jazz tried. Also, the final moment of the season being a terrible Verdugo AB almost killed me.
Cowboys: Just disgusting performance after disgusting performance. They might be the worst non-Giants team in the league. I don’t even care when they lose anymore. Half the team/coaching staff are lame ducks, we might have 4 talented players on the roster (Ceedee, Overshown, Micah, and Tyler Smith), and our owner is trying to kill our wide receivers with a multi-story 2 billion dollar magnifying glass.
Hurricanes: The lone bright spot, sort of. We lost to a sub-.500 team platooning two QBs and seemed like half their team was hurt. However, through some quantum theory math, we can win out and make the ACC chip and hopefully the CFP. I’m hopeful, but I just need to see them dominate a P4 team front to back before we start thinking about Georgia.
What’s next: I can finally start really caring about the Knicks a bit earlier since the Cowboys won’t trick me into getting excited for the Wildcard round. I have a lot of hope here, OG is awesome to watch on defense and KAT is so talented. A concern is whether or not Mikal was worth giving up all we did. It’s not that he’s been bad, but you watch and he’s clearly been the 4th best player on the team. I think his value will show itself more closer to the playoffs, but sometimes you wonder if it might’ve been better to save some powder, especially post KAT trade.
